COUNCILMAN FRITZ SCHERZ TO HOST 9th ANNUAL THANK YOU DINNER FOR VETERANS!

Fred “Fritz” Scherz, Jr., Councilman on the Verona Town Board, will hold his 9^th Annual Thank You

Dinner for all Town of Verona Veterans and their families on Sunday, November 11^th from 5pm to 6pm at the Verona Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6811 (4928 Spring Rd.) in Verona. 

“I truly appreciate Veterans and thought this would be a nice way to thank them once again,” said Scherz.

“The last eight years I’ve held this event, there was a good turnout. It is always great to see Veterans of various ages attend, share their stories with each other, and even make some new friends. This year, though, we will miss a friend of the Scherz family for many years, WWII Veteran, Joe Smith who passed away earlier this year. I want folks to know that as with last eight years I’ve held this dinner, no town funds are being used for it whatsoever as this is not a government-based event.  Rather, I am personally covering the cost of this dinner because it is something I thought would be nice to do again. My family always looks forward to this annual event. As with the last couple of years, Frank Buda (friend of the Scherz family for over 40 years!) will play accordion and play a special tune for each branch of the military. So, if you’re a Veteran from the Town of Verona, I sure hope to see you and your family at my Thank You Dinner!”

While reservations are not required, Veterans who plan on attending are asked to contact Fritz at:

DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR 10th ANNUAL FRED SCHERZ SR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY SERVICE!

The deadline to apply for the Fred Scherz Sr. Memorial Scholarship for Volunteer Community Service that was

created by Fred “Fritz” Scherz, Jr., Councilman on the Verona Town Board in Verona, NY is May 24, 2019.  The scholarship will be in the amount of $250 and will be awarded by Fritz to a Town of Verona, New York student who is on track to graduate from 12^th grade at a high school (public or private) or home school by June 30, 2019.  Additionally, the student must have lived in the Town of Verona, New York since at least December 1, 2018 and must be voluntarily engaged in community service or must have created a community project. 

“I’m reminding students from the Town of Verona of the deadline, as I am hopeful quite a few will apply for the scholarship,” said Scherz.  “As in previous years, I’ve received inquiries about the scholarship, so I’m looking forward to receiving the applications and finding out about all the good things that local students are doing in the community.”

COUNCILMAN FRITZ SCHERZ ANNOUNCES 10th ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY SERVICE!

Fred “Fritz” Scherz, Jr., Councilman on the Verona Town Board in Verona, NY, has again created the Fred Scherz Sr. Memorial Scholarship for Volunteer Community Service.  The 10^th annual scholarship will be in the amount of $250 and will be awarded by Fritz to a Town of Verona, New York student who is on track to graduate from 12^th grade at a high school (public or private) or home school by June 30, 2019.  Additionally, the student must have lived in the Town of Verona, New York since at least December 1, 2018, and must be voluntarily engaged in community service or must have created a community project that benefits the Town of Verona. 

“It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since I did the inaugural scholarship back in the spring of 2010 as a

way to honor my Dad’s memory,” said Scherz.  “My Dad, Fred Scherz Sr., believed it was important to give back to his community, and he took pride in helping people,” said Scherz.  “Last year, Zachary Nell won the 9^th Annual Fred Scherz Sr. Memorial Scholarship for Volunteer Community Service.  I plan on self-funding this year’s scholarship in my Dad’s name and feel that if students get started in volunteering at a younger age, they’ll continue to do so once they’re out of school. I’m a strong believer that volunteerism is a great thing for any community!”
